The Mixer Problem.

The Mixer Problem.

24 Jan

Picture a litre of milk and a litre of Kahula.  A cup of Kahula is poured into the milk and mixed thoroughly. Then, a cup of this mixture is poured back into the Kahula.

Is the amount of Kahula now in the milk more, less, or the same as the amount of milk in the Kahula? Explain..

Put your answers in the comments and check the answers page tomorrow to see if you’re right. Good Luck!

  • Surprisingly, there would be the same amount in each.

It would appear that the milk would contain more Kahula than the Kahula would contain milk because in the second pouring, the mixture is no longer pure.

However, since there is a full litre of each liquid, whatever amount of Kahula that was removed has to be replaced with the same ammount of milk.

The key is realizing that we are still left with two one litre containers of liquid.
