I think it’s time for a slightly more difficult puzzle. We all know how much the ancients enjoyed mathematics right? Try this one…

Find the smallest number for which the following statements are true:

When I divide it by 2, the remainder is 1.
When I divide it by 3, the remainder is 2.
When I divide it by 4, the remainder is 3.
When I divide it by 5, the remainder is 4.
When I divide it by 6, the remainder is 5.
When I divide it by 7, the remainder is 6.
When I divide it by 8, the remainder is 7.
When I divide it by 9, the remainder is 8.
When I divide it by 10, the remainder is 9

This puzzle is suspected to be written by no less than Albert Einstein himself! See if you can work it out.

Since you use around the same amount of energy walking for ten kilometres as you do running for ten kilometres, would a person use more energy running for ten minutes or walking for ten minutes or is the same amount of energy spent? Why?

Mrs. Chips opened her own clothing store. She wasn’t sure how to price the items she had for sale so she devised her own method. At her store, a vest costs £20, socks cost £25, a tie costs £15 and blouse costs £30. She’s clearly insane but under Mrs. Chips pricing scheme, how much would underwear cost?

Mr. and Mrs. Chips were walking home from the shopping mall with their shopping bags when Mr. Chips began to complain that his bags were too heavy. Mrs Chips turned to her husband and said, “I don’t know what you’re complaining about because if you gave me one of your bags, I would have twice as many as you, as if I gave you just one of mine, we would have equal loads”.

How many bags were they carrying?
