In general, people fear spiders more than they fear death.

Along with spiders, some of the most commonly feared things are snakes, heights, water, enclosed spaces, tunnels and bridges, social rejection, failure, and public speaking.
Oddly, the fear of death has been shown to be most prevalent in those of us whom are  ’slightly religious’ with atheists coming in second and the completely devout being least afraid.

The old adage “An elephant never forgets”, has some basis in fact.
