In 2004, David Bowie was nearly blinded when a fan threw a lollipop in his eye.

As if it weren’t enough that pop oddity Bowie is most fondly remembered as the makeup clad he-she Ziggy Stardust, in June ‘04 the poor guy took a Chupa-Chups to the eye like a dart. I’ve heard of ‘nose candy’ but never ‘eye candy’!

Whilst Bowie was playing a gig in Oslo, Norway, the presumably crazed fan launched a sugary eye seeking Double-Dip straight at him. At almost unbelievably small odds, the lollipop’s stick got itself wedged between Bowie’s eye and eyelid. Though he tried to get the stick out himself, it was so jammed in there that he had to be helped by a crew member. In fairness to him, he carried on as soon as the stick was out but that’s gotta be harder to live down than if he fell over in heels!

David is, of course, an absolute musical legend,..even if he is a little silly. His career has seen him take 136 million album sales and Rolling Stone magazine named him as the 23rd best singer of all time. Personally I’d take a full on Cornetto in the eye to have that kind of fame and fortune. What d’you think?
