If you’re keen to see it, the video is at the bottom of the post but to be honest, at that speed it’s hard to tell whether it’s good or bad. All you know is it’s fast; faster than the dude with the knives on Heroes.

Who is it?

Born in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, his name is Tiago Della Vega and he’s been playing since he was 5. At seven he started to play the electric guitar and reportedly practiced for up to 16 hours a day. He was giving guitar lessons at 15 which puts me to complete shame,..at 15 I could barely play ‘Come As You Are’!

You can check out his MySpace page here.

The World Record

Now in my books, “Flight of the Bumblebee” is one of the most annoying tunes your ever likely to hear but for some reason, guitar gods like Vega like to use is as some sort of excellence benchmark.  One thing that makes it particularly difficult to play at high tempos is the almost unremitting use of sixteenth notes throughout.  That’s sixteen notes per bar. So,..at 16 notes per bar thats 4 notes per beat multiplied by 320 beats per minute divided by 60 to get that in seconds and you end up with the figure 21.3 notes per second.  Take a look-

And Now He’s Even Faster!

Vega appeared on Japanese TV and did it again except this time he went up to 370bpm.

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Calculator = 24.6 notes per second.  Yeah,…not bad!

If you like it,..Share it!

  • Ja,..I saw the Padilla video. He's very impressive. He should go for the record,..don't know why he hasn't done that yet.

    If he does, I'll be sure to cover it.

    21.3 notes per second.

    Monster Guitarist Randall Padilla can play 23.5 notes per second, clear as day, with a digital metronome.

    He claims that his next post this summer will be at 26 notes per second, or 6 notes per beat at 260bpm!

    Both videos are impressive (Della Vega/Padilla), but if Padilla does post a 26 note per second video, then hands down no one will come close to that. He already plays faster than Della Vegas Guinness video at 23.5 notes per second.
